MDS Pharma Services announces the addition of a new industry expert to its pharmacology consulting group

(September 6, 2001; Montreal, Quebec) — MDS Pharma Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Peter Chiu to its pharmacology consulting group. Dr. Chiu has been named pharmacology director and associate research fellow and will work from the company’s discovery and preclinical facility in Bothell, Washington. He joins a team of seasoned professionals, formerly from companies such as Merck, Pharmacia, AstraZeneca, and Pharmacia. Dr. Chui will assume scientific oversight of the company’s facility in Taipei, Taiwan, as acting chief scientific officer.

Dr. Chiu’s background includes extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to joining MDS Pharma Services, Dr. Chiu served as assistant director, general pharmacology, Pfizer global research and development, Groton Laboratories and various scientific and research capacities with what is now the Schering-Plough Corporation. His areas of specialization include renal, gastrointestinal, and cardiovascular pharmacology.

Dr. Chiu is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, the American Physiological Society, the International Society of Nephrology, Taiwanese Bioscientists in America, and the Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America.

Dr. Chiu has authored or co-authored nearly 100 scientific papers and more than 60 abstracts. His papers have appeared in numerous scientific journals, including the European Journal of Pharmacology, the Cardiovascular Drug Review, the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Pharmacology, and SCBA Bio Pharma Quarterly.

He has also delivered more than 40 invited lectures to a wide variety of scientific and academic gatherings, including the Annual Convention of the Chinese American Academic and Professional Society; the National Defense Medical College of Taipei, Taiwan; the Instituto Scientifico San Raffaele, Milan, Italy; and the Department of Pharmacology, New York Medical College.

Dr. Chiu received his Ph.D. in pharmacology from Columbia University. He holds an MS in pharmacology from National Taiwan University College of Medicine, as well as a BS in pharmacy from Taipei Medical College.
